How it started
It all started with a viral LinkedIn post from co-founder Adam Neuhaus on November 30th, 2024, that rippled through the industry reaching filmmakers, producers, podcasters, and production companies. The comments section lit up with agreement:
'We should create The Black List for unproduced nonfiction projects.'
Within a week, a crew of 20 joined forces.
'If we can help 20 films get made, that's 200 jobs'.
We committed to moving with quick kindness, in service of storytellers and great storytelling, embodying the generosity and curiosity we wished to see in the industry.
'We'll do this once and see how it goes.'
We moved with openness, discovery, and constant conversation. We didn't know the way, but we were confident we could find it together. We built a submission infrastructure with free online tools, duct tape, and passion.
We reached out to every person who liked and commented on the original post, had hundreds of conversations, sent thousands of emails, until the sizzles and decks began to flow…
