Exceptional nonfiction storytelling changes how we see the world, and right now, more great projects deserve the chance to be made.We're putting out the call for nonfiction projects that need a champion. We're one hopeful voice among many, declaring: no one has a monopoly on great taste and algorithms don't predict magic.We are a collective of nonfiction filmmakers, producers and executives passionate about supporting stories that simply must get made — but haven’t yet.The power has always been with the creatives. Every groundbreaking nonfiction project started with someone saying, "This story matters."The Nonfiction Hotlist will be shared across the industry in order to amplify these exceptional stories.

submission guidelines
The Nonfiction Hotlist is for exceptional nonfiction projects that haven't been fully funded. Projects may be partially funded, works in progress or just in treatment form.**We are not accepting finished projects that are seeking distribution.If your pitch has been passed on by streamers/outlets, that’s okay! This is an effort to expand the horizons for what’s possible, not reinforce creative gatekeeping.We're looking for stories that stick with you, characters that move you, access that feels special, and inventive creative approaches.The final list will be shared with the broader industry Q1 ‘25 and every submission will receive a response.

By submitting your project (the "Submission") through this form, you ("Submitter") acknowledge and agree that you are the sole owner of the Submissions and related materials, you irrevocably release, indemify, waive and discharge The Nonfiction Hotlist from any and all claims, demands, causes of action arising out of or in connection with the Submission, and confirm that you have read, understand and agree to this Waiver, Release and Indemnity Agreement in its entirety.

What is this?
The Nonfiction Hotlist celebrates and amplifies the best unproduced nonfiction projects. This curated list will then be shared with the broader industry.
What does it cost to submit?
Nothing! There is no cost associated with submitting.
What formats are eligible?
Any nonfiction project is eligible.
Can I submit a finished project?
No, not at this time.
Who can submit projects?
Anyone! But please do not submit anything without the rights holders’ knowledge and approval and please be thoughtful and intentional.
Can I submit multiple projects?
Absolutely. Submit as many projects as you’d like. But please do not submit the same project multiple times and again, please be thoughtful and intentional.
What if this project has been pitched before?
All good! This is for nonfiction projects both pitched and not pitched, that need full or partial funding.
What if my project has elements that are sensitive in nature that should not be released to the public?
You can always choose not to submit! But all submissions and associated materials will be held strictly confidential and nothing will be released publicly without permission.
When are submissions open?
Submissions are open now until January 31, 2025.
What kind of information and materials am I submitting?
Please submit title, logline and any associated materials (pitch decks, presentations, sizzle reels) that you’re comfortable sharing.
How will the projects be chosen for the list?
Just like a film festival, projects will be reviewed by a passionate group of volunteers that knows and cares about storytelling.
Who will see what I submit?
We’re a small band of producers, directors, executives and other creatives who want to help shine a light on some of the best unproduced nonfiction projects. No one beyond our internal review committees will see your submissions or materials unless you’re chosen for the list.
What if I’m chosen for the list?
If your project is chosen to be featured we will contact you beforehand to review and approve the information we plan to publish.
What if I’m not chosen?
You will be contacted and notified even if you weren’t selected. And don’t give up!
When will this list come out?
Q1 2025.
Where will it be released?
The list will be emailed out in PDF form to you and the industry at large. If you would like to be on the mailing list, please sign up!
